In July 2021 I supported a client through a trial which was being held at Bradford Crown Court. She had reported the crime of historic sexual abuse in 2018 so it had taken 3 years to get to court. The first court date was cancelled due to covid which put my client through even more stress.
My client was very anxious about going to Bradford for the trial so I arranged with CPS that she could give her evidence via video link at Scarborough Magistrates Court.
My client was instantly reassured and felt much stronger and able to face the trial knowing she wasn’t in the same town as the perpetrator.
She remained strong and on the day of the trial gave her evidence with confidence and clarity. She stood up to the defense questioning, keeping calm and clear.
The perpetrator was found guilty and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
My client is now focusing on her own life. She has become an invaluable ambassador for IDAS and advocate for victims and survivors of sexual abuse and violence and has returned to college and is wanting to open her own car garage.
It’s been a real privilege being able to support my client through such a long and hard journey and to get a good result at the end of it makes my job worthwhile.
