IDAS has been selected to participate in the Big Give Kind²mind match-funded campaign.
We hope to raise £10,000 in 7 days, to help us develop and deliver trauma-informed recovery groups for victims and survivors of domestic abuse, enabling them to recover from their experience and go on to live safe lives, free from abuse and violence. Donations will be matched, so effectively doubled, for 7 days from 15 – 22 May, which is #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek. One donation, twice the impact.
During 2022, 2,494 victims and survivors of domestic abuse said that we helped them to better manage their mental health, with 62% of respondents stating that they noticed a positive impact on their mental health because of our support.
Domestic abuse leaves a devastating impact on victims and survivors, and many of the people who desperately need our services have complex mental health needs due to the trauma they have experienced. Domestic abuse is still too often seen as an issue of violence alone, yet many of the women, men, and young people that we support tell us that the emotional abuse, resulting trauma and mental health implications stay with them for far longer. Our recovery groups are a safe space where victims and survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence can talk openly about their experiences, receive tailored, specialist support to improve their mental health and wellbeing, build support networks and increase their confidence and self-esteem. Our groups will enable them to heal and move on from their experiences, and gain an understanding of abusive relationships to help them to identify healthy relationships in the future.
Last year, we ran 96 group programmes that were attended by 768 women, men and young people whose lives had been devastated by abuse and violence. Please support this new campaign by making a donation, so that we can help more victims and survivors to heal and recover from their experiences.
What happens during the campaign?
Donations made to our project via BigGive.org will be doubled during the campaign. If you would like to support our work this year, we’d love you to do so during Kind²mind, when your donation will be doubled and make even more of a difference to us.
