IDAS has been shortlisted in this year’s York Sport Awards, in the Diversity and Inclusivity category, for our Young Person’s Leadership Programme that we launched last year with York City Football Club Foundation.

The York Sport Awards is a prestigious annual awards ceremony that celebrates the hard work and dedication of people within all levels of sport, from elite level sport to grassroots to coaches, administrators and volunteers across York during 2022.

Councillor Darryl Smalley, Executive Member for Culture, Leisure and Communities at City of York Council, the awards partner, said:

“These inspirational awards celebrate all involved in sport and physical wellbeing. From professional athletes who inspire us, to the generous volunteers without whom community sport and wellbeing initiatives could not take place: this is York’s chance to thank and recognise them, their achievements and contributions.”

IDAS’ Young Person’s Leadership Programme is aimed at young people who have experienced or witnessed domestic abuse. It offers opportunities for physical activity and the chance to build social skills, self confidence and have fun with peers. All the young people taking part have the chance to gain a recognised Sports Leadership qualification, with opportunities for further qualifications and volunteering with York City Football Club Foundation.

The Young Person’s Leadership Programme has been generously supported through funding from First Direct and the Ed de Nunzio Charitable Trust.

The awards dinner will take place on Thursday 20th April at York Racecourse, where the winners from each category will be announced.

Wish us luck!
